Five For Friday - October 17th Readout
It's Five for Friday on October 17th. I create five articles every Friday for people interested in public sector operations in general and public procurement specifically, and from time to time I record an audio companion, which is what you are listening to now. So first, the Procurement Excellence Network hosts a webinar next Thursday at 1 Eastern on the importance of storytelling in procurement, how narratives can help procurement teams build trust, clarity, and alignment. I have a speech I have given several times on that exact topic. I think it's very important, so I encourage you to attend the PEN's content. Second, NASIO's 2025 conference was this week. That's the state CIO's, and they highlight 10 innovative state IT projects that they recognized and highlighted as case studies for others to follow. Awardees included Minnesota, Ohio, Massachusetts, Kansas, Connecticut, Washington, North Carolina, and Arizona. So go take a look and learn from these leaders. Third, also at NASIO, a panel discussion took place on procurement, covering a variety of the core aspects of IT procurement, including key strengths and weaknesses and how to make procurement a more consistent and valuable asset for the CIO and government technology covered the core and the highlights of the discussion. Fourth, Radio NIGP's back on the air, and it's leads with an interview of the new NIGP CEO, Debbie Trueblood, and then continues into deepening the topic on mastering the politics of procurement. And finally, Route 50 investigates the status of BEAD funding, which is the broadband program, trends on the current pace of use, and given some of the underutilization that's being reported, what are some of the possible outcomes with the funds? This is a really valuable topic to come up to speed on now to maximize the value of state funds if your state is a recipient and to mobilize to execute within the mission of the program. Next week I'll be in New Orleans at NASCAR, which is the state chief administrators conference. Looking forward to that. If you are attending, let's definitely connect. And with that, have a happy Friday.
