Five For Friday - October 10th Readout

SPEAKER_00:

It's Five for Friday on October 10th. I curate five articles every Friday for people interested in public sector operations in general and public procurement specifically. And from time to time I record an audio companion, which is what you are listening to now. So, first, the University of Dayton's government contracting program shares some useful specifics on day nine of the US government shutdown, commenting on some of the recent budgeting communication and generally compiling all that with links into their government shutdown playbook. Useful content. It's good to highlight someone that I've not highlighted before. Second, NASIO, the state's chief information officers, released a report at the end of September on harnessing Gen AI to elevate the citizen experience. This report was based on surveys of all the state CIOs, agency employees, and over a thousand U.S. citizens. I thought it was a deep and meaningful piece and worth your read. Third GFOA, the Financial Officers Association, has put out their biennial publication, the Public Finance Journal, and it was released with four comprehensive research articles and four in-depth book reviews on public sector operations topics. These are pretty deep in a good way, so if this is your area, this document's worth your time. Fourth, NASPO, the procurement officers, want you to know that October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. As part of that content arc, they have a handy 15-page document on understanding and employing strong cybersecurity insurance requirements and practices in the contracting lifecycle. And finally, Million Podcasts published a list of the top 40 procurement podcasts of 2025. And hey, look, there's this podcast, the Public Procurement Change Agent, in the top 10. I don't necessarily do this to be a top podcast, and frankly, that may be a little overblown, although I'd love to believe it to be true. And a win is a win. But I mainly do this because I think it's important to show that there are real people behind Civic and that we are really doing this work every week. Speaking of which, earlier this week, I was at NPI, the National Procurement Institute's 57th annual conference. I enjoyed connecting with 150, 200 suppliers and agencies celebrating procurement excellence and award winners and hearing some great content. So I always enjoy that event and plan to continue to attend. So thank you to that team for a well produced show as always. And with that, have a happy Friday.
