Five For Friday - May 16th Readout

SPEAKER_00:

It's Five Friday on May 16th. I create five articles every Friday for people interested in public sector operations in general and public procurement specifically. And from time to time, I record an audio companion, which is what you are listening to now. So first, it's National Infrastructure Week. The Procurement Excellence Network highlights a National League of Cities article on how infrastructure investments impact services for citizens and long-term outcomes and the pivotal role of procurement in these projects. Second, NASPO, the National Association of State Procurement Officials, provides some new suggestions and resources related to talent management in public procurement. Their Pulse blog post explores retention training and workforce development strategies, emphasizing ethics, purpose, and capability. Third, NASBO, which is the Budget Officers, promotes their session on the current fiscal landscape, which is scheduled for May 20th at 1 Eastern. Shelby Kearns and Rick Mattoon will discuss recent trends in state fiscal conditions and economic pressures. which is timely and relevant for budget officers and public sector leaders. Fourth, Barrett and Green share a recent local government-focused AI webinar led by Micah Gaudet. The session introduces practical applications of generative AI, for example, grant writing and internal analysis, and the session is available on demand. And finally, David Yarkin, friend of the show, joined Philip Ideson on the Art of Procurement podcast. The discussion covers many important experiences from his procurement journey and how public sector procurement practices can inform private sector strategy. And with that, have a happy Friday.
