Five For Friday - April 4th Readout

SPEAKER_00:

It's Five for Friday on April 4th. I curate five things every Friday for people interested in public sector operations in general and public procurement specifically. And from time to time, I record an audio companion, which is what you are listening to now. So first, Paul Brennan provides several provocative insights into tariffs and public procurement. With trade wars beginning to impact acquisition strategies, he examines the supply chain impacts that procurement professionals should anticipate. Secondly, the Coalition for Common Sense in Government Procurement is hosting a webinar on April 10th at 12 Eastern to discuss how new tariff policies will impact government contractors. While the focus is on contractor impact, government attendance is anticipated and complementary. Third, another webinar option for the week, Tammy Rimes shares an upcoming panel on April 9th at 1 Eastern, which will be covering how agencies can use cooperative contracts to enhance their sustainability efforts. Fourth, Zachary Christensen and NASPO discuss how digitization and AI are transforming state procurement from automated processes to predictive analytics. He looks at how these technologies are redefining efficiency in public purchasing. Finally, on the lighter side, the National League of Cities wants you to know that next Friday is National Pet Day, and they celebrate by looking at how Rancho Cucamonga has established a city hound program that allows for pets in the workplace, which they find helps improve recruitment and retention. And they have a cute picture of Hank the HR dog in a big long stretch that doesn't hurt that recruitment at all. In bonus material, we welcomed Laura Jones to Team Civic this week. She has 30 years in procurement experience from North Carolina. She was a longtime director of a county procurement shop in North Carolina, and she is also a past president of the North Carolina Association of Governmental Purchasing. We're very happy to add her to our team. And in further bonus material, we'll be attending the Transforming Local Government conference next week in Scottsdale. That conference brings together innovators at the local government level to share content and ideas in all forms and facets of operations. So it'll be our first time attending that. I'm looking forward to learning and meeting some new folks and talking about how If you love innovation, you need to love procurement because it's hard to drive innovation if you can't bring innovation into the procurement function at the same time. So looking forward to that. If you are attending, let's connect. And with that, have a happy Friday.
