Five For Friday - January 17th Readout
It's Five for Friday on January 17th. I curate out five things every Friday that are worth weekend reading time for people interested in public sector operations in general and public procurement specifically. And from time to time, I record an audio companion, which is what you are listening to now. First, the Department of Homeland Security has released a playbook for public sector generative AI deployment called to support government officials in their lifecycle use of artificial intelligence technologies, including examples of DHS's specific work in applying these principles. Good reading for both procurement and technology leaders in similar projects. Second, NASPO, which is the Procurement Officers. And CISA, which is the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, are collaborating on a session on Thursday, January 23rd at 1 Eastern to promote the Software Acquisition Guide for Government Enterprise Consumers, which seeks to strengthen cybersecurity in procurement. Third, NIGP continues its Profiles in Leadership series with a piece by Victoria Mirlaka on key differences between private and public sector procurement and her transition into public sector leadership. Fourth, Barrett and Green shares thoughts from the NASPO, which is the Budget Officers Executive Director, Shelby Kearns, on the fundamental challenge facing state budget offices, governors, and appropriators for fiscal 2026. And finally, the Open Contracting Partnership highlights Lisa Flores, the city chief procurement officer, about how New York City is increasing participation and access for government contracts in all of the city's boroughs. And in bonus content, it was CAPO this week, which is the California Public Procurement Association. It's always a kick-off-the-year kind of gathering, and even though it's regional, it attracts almost all the major vendors and thought leaders. And it's a vibrant networking and idea sharing group. So we enjoyed that and check a picture from the event that Tao Hill, the master photographer took to get a vibe of the conference. And with that, have a happy Friday.
